At a pressure of 5.0 atmospheres, a sample of gas occupies 40 liters. What volume will the same sample occupy at 1.0 atmosphere?

From Boyle's law, "Pressure prop 1"/("Volume")

So, Pressure*Volume=Constant or P_1V_1=P_2V_2

Here, P_1 = 5atm, V_1 = 40L and P_2 = 1atm, V_2= ?

5*40=V_2*1
rArr V_2 = 200L

So, at 1atm, Volume of the gas will be 200L.

Do note that above law is applicable only if Temperature is constant.
