I think this is incorrect. Aluminum metal should reduce Cu2+ ion.

Explanation:

Aluminum metal is much more active than copper, and aluminum in copper sulfate should result in deposition of metallic copper:

2Al(s)+3Cu2+2Al3++3Cu(s)

If you use aluminum foil, the foil should darken and slowly dissolve as the copper precipitates. The colour of the solution, initially a beautiful blue, should also go progressively pale.
