Urbanization, dam construction, groundwater issues

Explanation:

Urban areas expanded enormously over the past 50 years or so. Urban areas stops infiltration (of water) into ground. Such areas force precipitated water to run from surface (it is called surface runoff). Therefore, floods occur frequently in urban areas compared to rural neighboors.

Damming is another issue. Dams are constructed to store water. Streams become lakes. Water in lakes are subject to evaporation. Water in streams does not evaporate easily. Reservoirs are subject to comtamination because aeration occurs faster in running waters (e.g. streams and rivers).

Human being is able to use groundwater. If groundwater is used extensively, some aquifers dry up. People have to consider safe yield when benefiting groundwater resources in a specific area.

There are many issues in hydrology. I tried to mention only three of them here.
