An object is thrown vertically upward from a height of 2m at 1ms. How long will it take for the object to hit the ground?

The initial velocity of the object in upward direction u=1ms
( upward direction is taken positive )

So the downward acceleration due to gravity g=9.8ms2

The object is thrown from height 2m. If it reaches ground afterts then the displacement of the object during ts will be h=2m
Hence applying equation of kinematics for under gravity motion we can write
h=u×t+12×g×t2

2=1×t12×9.8×t2

4.9t2t2=0

t=1+(1)24×4.9×(2)2×4.90.75s
