Can you use a semicolon in the title of a research paper (between the title and the subtitle)?

It could be done, but not often
Explanation:
Semicolons are often used to 'split' a sentence into two, sorta creating two mini sentences into one big sentence. Semicolons shouldn't often be used, but I guess if it's a valid situation, you can.
Here is an example of a semicolon in a sentence:
"Her golden hair ran down her back like molten gold; it was as blinding as the sun."
Or you could put it into two sentences:
"Her golden hair ran down her back like molten gold. It was as blinding as the sun."
So, really, it's your choice.
