Covalent bonds are named based on their nature.

Covalency occurs when 2 or more atoms share their electrons so that they get they get their octet of electrons.

Now

Something like this

Mg0 will be called magnesium oxide

CO_2 will be called carbon dioxide

H_2 O_2 This is what we call hydrogen peroxide(PS DO NOT CONFUSE WITH REGULAR OXIDES AS IT HAS TO HAVE O^-2_2 ION

okay and compounds with 3 carbon atoms are called trioxides..

P_2 0_5 this phosphorus pentoxide.

Thats all for the basics.
