You first get rid of the brackets (considering the effect of the sign in front of them) and then add similar terms (with the same type of letters).
You'll get:
#x^2-7x+3#

Explanation:

In this case you have:
#(x-6)+(x^2-8x+9)=#
The #+# sign does not change the signs of the factors inside the bracket so you get:
#=x-6+x^2-8x+9=#
We can add together (respecting their signs) the terms with #x# and the numbers which are "similar", to get:
#=x^2-7x+3#
