Using polynomial long division (below)
1/2x^2+1/4x+9/8 with remainder (25x+24)/(16x^2-8x)

Explanation:

Remember to allow for the (zero) x^3 term:

Note that the remainder 25/8 x +3 (over 2x^2-x)
can be simplified as
color(white)("XXX")(25x+24)/(16x^2-8x) to avoid fractions of fractions.
