$x+y = 4/5 + 7/10 = 8/10+7/10 = 15/10 = 3/2$

To add fractions, you first need to give them common denominators, then just add the numerators...

$=2/2*4/5+7/10$

$= (2*4)/(2*5) + 7/10$
