I'm sure you've heard it said before by your teachers:

use common denominators.

Change 3/4 into 6/8 to be able to add the fractions in the parenthesis,

$1 \frac{6}{8} + 2 \frac{3}{8} = 3 \frac{9}{8}$ $1 6/8 + 2 3/8 = 3 9/8$

Simplify, and you have $4 \frac{1}{8}$ $4 1/8$

Now add that to the last fraction,

$4 \frac{1}{8} + 5 \frac{7}{8}$ $4 1/8+ 5 7/8$

with a result of $9 \frac{8}{8}$ $9 8/8$

Simplify once more and you get 10.
