The detail for this is way over the top but I wanted to demonstrate several principles.

$9 1/5$

Note that $3 4/10$ is the same as $3+4/10$

Applying this principle and grouping the numbers we have:

$3+5+[4/10+2/10+6/10]$

$8+[12/10]$

$8+[10/10+2/10]$

But $10/10=1$

$8+1+2/10$

$9+2/10" "->" "9+[(2-:2)/(10-:2)]$

$9+1/5 = 9 1/5$
