Is there a way that I can load a pdf file as an answer to student's questions? And how? I am battling with the mathematical symbols and notations so if I can write by hand on paper and then scan to pdf and upload, that would allow me to answer more quest

Here's what you could do.
Explanation:
You can't load a .pdf file on Socratic per se, but you could upload it to a free pdf-hosting site and maybe post the link in the answer.
You could explain as much as you can using the editor, then cover the stuff that you can't write here in the .pdf file.
Another alternative is to take pictures of the answers you write on paper and add them as images to an answer. If you get the quality/image size right, you can add it as an image to the answer. This is a method Gio, a regular contributor, used a lot. Here's how that looks
You have the added bonus of being able to add diagrams and drawings, too.
You could also upload this picture on a free image-hosting site and post the link in the answer.
You can try both methods and see which works best for you, I'm sure the answers will come out great either way.
