It is the electric charge carried by a single electron or a single proton.

It is usually denoted as e and its value is 1.60217657 × 10^-19 coulombs.

Since an electron is negatively charged , its charge is -1.60217657 × 10^-19 coulombs and the charge on a proton is 1.60217657 × 10^-19 coulombs.
