Carpel is common term used for megasporophyll, a leafy structure bearing megasporangia (ovules) . One or more carpels are fused together to form pistil or gynoecium . The pistil is differentiated into ovary, style and stigma . The stigma receives pollen grains during pollination. The ovary encloses ovules which ripen into seeds after pollination and ovary ripens into fruit.
