The relation between miles and kilometres is given by

$1 kilometre = 0.621371 miles$ $1" kilometre"=0.621371" miles"$

or $1 mile = 1.609344 kilometres$ $1" mile"=1.609344" kilometres"$

Observe that $\frac{1}{0.621371} = 1.609344$ $1/0.621371=1.609344$

Hence $x miles = x \times 1.609344 kilometres$ $x" miles"=x xx1.609344" kilometres"$

and relation is $y = 1.609344 x$ $y=1.609344x$

You can also write it reverse way i.e. $x = 0.621371 y$ $x=0.621371y$ , as well.
