#y=8# is not a direct variation.

Explanation:

For an equation to be a direct variation doubling the value of the independent variable (#x#) must double the value of the dependent variable (#y#).

Given #y=8#

If #x=1# then #y=8#
If #x=2# then #y=8#

Obviously the value of #y# has not doubled although the value of #x# was doubled; therefore this is not a direct variation.
