How do you check that the solution is 9 for the equation 3(x - 1) - 2(x + 3) = 03(x1)2(x+3)=0?

1 Answer

3( x-1) -2 (x+3) =03(x1)2(x+3)=0

Distribute the 33 and the -22

3*x -3*1 -2*x -2*3 = 03x312x23=0

3x -3 -2x -6 = 03x32x6=0

Group the like terms

3x -2x -3 -6 =03x2x36=0

Combine the like terms

x -9 = 0x9=0

adding 99 on both sides to get value of xx ;

x-9 + 9 = 0 +9x9+9=0+9

x =9x=9

In order to check if 99 is the correct answer , substitute 99 as value of xx in the above equation;

3( x-1) -2 (x+3) =03(x1)2(x+3)=0

3 ( 9-1) -2 (9 +3) =03(91)2(9+3)=0

3(8) -2 (12) =03(8)2(12)=0

24 -24 =02424=0 ( Proved)
