(1+53)2=542=27

Explanation:

Use BODMAS (Brackets Orders Division Multiplication Addition And Subtraction. First, add the numbers in the bracket because it's the first, the B, in BODMAS.

1+53=54

Then if there's nothing else left in the bracket, move to the outside.

542

Because we only have division left we simply divide 54 by 2

542=27

Note: if there were other signs besides division, we'd work them out like this:

53+12+74

would be

Bracket first

53+1=54

Then division

542=27

Then multiplication

74=28

This is what it looks like at this stage

27+28

Now simply add the two

27+28=55
