3x-7y=1 is not a direct variation equation

Explanation:

A direct variation equation must be transformable into
color(white)("XXX")y=mx for some constant m

3x-7x=1
color(white)("XXX")rArr y=3/7xcolor(red)(-1/7)

The (color(red)(-1/7)) "shifts" the value of y down (by 1/7) preventing this from being a direct variation.
