What kind of variation is xy=c?

xy=c
color(blue)(x)=c/color(blue)(y

Here, color(blue)(x and y are variables and c is the constant.

Let us assume the constant c to be 10 and assign values to color (blue)(y and observe the trend in values of color(blue)(x

  • c = 10 , let color(blue)(y = 2
    Then x = c/y = 10/2, color(blue)(x = 5

  • c = 10 , let color(blue)(y=5
    Then x = c/y = 10/5 , color(blue)( x = 2

As we can observe , when the value of y increases the value of x decreases. Hence the variation here is inverse variation .
