As the fractions have the same denominator we do not need to change much. Why not split the calculation into 2 parts.

Part 1 for the whole numbers.
Part 2 for the fraction number parts

So we have $(24 + 42) + \frac{11 + 9}{16}$ $(24+42)+(11+9)/16$

Giving $66 + \frac{20}{16} \to 66 + 1 + \frac{4}{16}$ $66+ 20/16" " ->" " 66+1 + 4/16$

But $\frac{4}{16} = \frac{4 \div 4}{16 \div 4} = \frac{1}{4}$ $4/16 = (4-:4)/(16-:4) = 1/4$ giving
