Let t= # of tapers

Let= # of pillars

Let j= # of jars

Eight candles in a basket : $t+p+j=8$

$t=(j+p)$
Substitute
$(j+p)+p+j=8$
$2j+2p=8$

There are no part-candles, so the only possible answer is $j=2, p=2, t=4$

Check:
$$1*t+$4*p+$6*j=$24$
$$1*4+$4*2+$6*2=$24$
$$4+$8+$12=$24$ . True
